Ingrid Racine, a trumpeter and composer, was born and raised in Ann Arbor. She is a great example of everything from bop to bop, fusion, folk to hip hop. She is known for her strong bebop sensibility, which she uses to explore music across generations and geographic boundaries. Ingrid graduated from Community High School’s jazz program in 2000. She then pursued a BFA degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan. There she studied with Bill Lucas, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra trumpeter, and Donald Walden, the great saxophonist. Ingrid had already been playing professionally in Michigan by the time she graduated. She was part of a variety of ensembles, including the 1920’s jazz band Phil Ogilvie’s Rhythm Kings, Mady Kuyate’s Heat of Africa and the Detroit-based all-female jazz group Straight Ahead. Ingrid also did sideman work with small local jazz groups. From 2003 to 2009, Ingrid toured the country and internationally with NOMO. Ingrid completed a Masters in Improvisation at the University of Michigan in 2007. Ingrid then returned to Michigan to continue her studies with Geri Allen. Ingrid recently performed with the Marion Hayden Ensemble and Wendell Harrison. She also performed with the Heather Black Project, Jesse Kramer’s Juice Box, and Ethan Davidson. She lives in Ann Arbor, MI, and is the leader of her own groups, Ingrid Racine Quartet, and Gin Dandies. Visit www.ingridracine.com
