Matthew was born in Winchester and began dancing with Weather Report’s brother, Matthew. Matthew did not learn jazz until he began studying at Alton College in Hampshire. He was instructed by Sam Bullard, and received double bass lessons from Tom Mason through a college music scholarship. Matthew graduated recently with a first-class honours degree in Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He was also the recipient of the Dankworth Prize for Big Band composition and arrangement. Matthew has performed at many prestigious venues, including Ronnie Scott’s and The Vortex, The Barbican. Matthew performed in these venues with various bands, including the Guildhall Jazz Band (including projects alongside Julian Siegel, the Dankworth family), Southbank Sinfonia, Southampton Legacy Big Band and Fraser Smith Quintet/Quartet. from www.matthewreadbass.co.uk
