Purna Loka Ensemble

Purnaprajna, originally from south India, began singing lessons at 7 years old and continued with violin lessons at 13. She was a Parur style violinist, which is characterized by technical excellence and musicianship. Vidwan H.K. was his teacher. Vidwan H.K. was his teacher. He was deeply influenced both by Indian classical music and Western classical music as well as American blues and folk music. Purna is now a University of Kansas Professor of Mathematics and Music. He combines these two disciplines to create Metaraga, which is a musical framework that was deeply inspired by the ideas and concepts of Algebraic Geometry. You can start in any of the musical genres and travel into other musical worlds to reach the “no man’s place” where there is no east or west. This is also evident in Purna’s ensemble name, Loka which means ‘world’ in Sanskrit. Purna is joined by Jeff Harshbarger (bassist), Purna Balakrishnan (violinist) and Amit Kavthekar (tabla). from http://originarts.com
