Ziv Ravitz states, “It’s difficult to define what jazz means these days.” Ravitz is a drummer who mixes elements of jazz, avant-garde and rock. His fluid, fluid grooves and shifting texture conjure up the sound of multi-percussionists with an infinite sonic palette. Ravitz grew up in Israel and began playing professionally in Israel at the age of thirteen. He was based in Tel Aviv as well as his hometown of Be’er-Sheva. He recalls that he saved money from the age of twelve to attend Berklee. Ravitz graduated from the school with a degree as a jazz composer in 2004 and moved to Brooklyn, the epicenter for progressive jazz. Ravitz soon began touring the world and recording with the Lee Konitz Quintet. Ravitz, in addition to his six-year tenure as a member of pianist Shai Maestro’s trio, has also performed with Omer Avital and Omer Klein, Joe Lovano (Joe Lovano), Joel Frahm, Joel Frahm.
