Brad Wheeler

Brad Wheeler, a Chicago saxophonist and composer, is an educator. He has performed in Chicago with Kurt Elling and Von Freeman, Laurence Hobgood and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra. He moved to Paris in 1990 and began leading his own bands. He performed with Riccardo de Fra, Horace Parlan and Johnnie Griffin. He was a radio France DJ and a teacher at the American School of Modern Music. Many recordings feature him, including The Future Was Yesterday (recorded in 2005), and two Grammy-nominated recordings featuring Kurt Elling: Man Up in the Air and This Time It’s Love. He has composed arrangements for Joe Henderson and Benny Golson, as well as music for independent film- and video projects. At the Eastman School of Music, he earned his Master of Music in jazz studies and contemporary music. Salvatore Martirano taught him contemporary music composition, and he attended Dave Holland’s Jazz Workshop, Banff, Canada.
