The Wide Hive Players

Wide Hive Players started as live sessions in May 2009. They are a collective that covers a lot of Wide Hive Records’ catalog. In addition to the phenomenally talented rhythm section of Thomas McCree and Matt Montgomery, Mike Rinta and Doug Rowan, as well as Tim Hyland, Tim Hyland and Tim Hyland, horn players Mike Rinta and Tim Hyland, all contribute to a sound that is respectful of tradition while pushing for new musical boundaries. Faye Carol, a well-known vocalist, lends her heartfelt soul to two of the compositions. This album marks a new era in Wide Hive’s first decade. This record’s strength lies in its compositional clarity and tonal clarity. It also highlights the communication between players and how it is presented in the musical path. BBC Music Magazine best describes the Wide Hive Players as “The Wide Hive Players”: “The Wide Hive Players is a group of talented in-house musicians from the San Francisco-based label Wide Hive Records. Gregory Howe, producer and label-owner, clearly has a great ear. He has created a stunning selection of jazz-infused tracks for his house band. This disc features a range of fast drum intros and beautiful, gutsy horn harmonics. In the case Mending Gravity, they have a strange dirge-like sound. Thomas McCree’s B3 organ adds an extra dimension to the mix. Tru Thoughts, a UK producer-led label, has attracted a large number of music fans. This Stateside band should do the same.” from www.widehive.com
