Immanuel Wilkins

Immanuel is a Saxophonist and Composer from Philadelphia. He learned his craft in church and took classes in jazz education programs like the Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts. Immanuel moved to New York in 2015. He earned his bachelor’s in Music at Juillard. While studying with Joe Temperley and Bruce Williams, he also studied with other jazz musicians such as Joel Ross and Solange Knowles. His long-time bandmates, Micah Thomas (piano), Daryl Johns and Kweku Suumbry (drums) formed his quartet during the same time. Being a bandleader, and being part of a group that has been together for more than four years, has allowed Immanuel the opportunity to develop as both a composer/arranger. He has also received a number commissions from The National Jazz Museum, The Jazz Gallery Artist Residency Commission (a collaboration with Sidra Bell Dance NY 2020), and The Kimmel Center Artist In Residence for 2020 (a collaboration with Rog Walker and David Dempewolf). Being an early participant in the jazz scene and sharing the stage alongside many greats has motivated him to be a positive in music and to continue to become a positive influencer in music and to help to make it a good to remain a musician and to create a sound and to contribute to the world to the goal to be a positive to the arts and to play a better to the community to continue to the future. He also has a strong resume as an educator. He has also taught at NYU and The New School. In addition, he has given master classes and clinics at venues such as Oberlin, Yale, and the Kimmel Center. Immanuel is a musician with a mission to create a jazz sound that has a deep spiritual and emotional impact. This will enable him to be a leader in the long lineage. Immanuel has studied the human pathos and culture of jazz and hopes to unite people through the commonality and love for this music.
