Frank Woeste was born in Germany, 1976. He grew up in a musical family. We all played different instruments, and we enjoyed a variety of music together. There are many music styles, from classical chamber music to jazz or the Beatles. Frank is a teenager and takes piano lessons at Bremen Conservatory. He also plays at the local jazzclub where he is joined by other jazzmusicians. After spending a year in America, Frank moved to Paris to study at Paris Conservatory in 1997. The school is a hub for many young artists and Frank is quickly becoming a part of the parisian jazzscene. Frank graduated from the conservatory in 2001 and won several 1st or second prizes in international jazz competitions, including the Steinway Prize at Montreux Piano Competition, Jazz Hoeilaart International Competition and the Gexto European Jazzcontest. He was soon recognized as a fresh talent by Mederic Collignon, a trumpet player, and Youn Sun Nah, a singer. He forms his own trio in 2003 with Mathias Allamane (bass) and Matthieu Chzarenc (drums). Their debut album, Mind at Play (2005) on Challenge Records receives very positive reviews from the european jazzmagazines. The album is also being played on many national radio stations. (France Musique, France Culture, TSF, Deutschland Radio, Bayrischer Rundfunk, NDR, etc.) His trio was awarded the prize of Jazzmigrations 2006» (Afijma). They are also touring Asia and Middle East for Cultures France, which sends french artists all over the globe. In 2007, the Frank Woeste Trio will record their second album, Untold Stories ». Frank is still active in the music world, playing solo or with his trio. Frank’s unique sound is well-known. He combines the natural sound of a rhodes piano and adds different effects to create a unique sound. Frank has been on the stage for many years with great musicians, including Louis Sclavis and John Scofield, Rosario Guliani and Malik Mezzadri. He has performed at many major festivals, including Jazz a Vienne and Jazz in Marsiac. His next album, W – Two You » will be released in January 2011.
