Piotr Wojtasik

Trumpeter, born June 10, 1964 in Wroclaw. Wojtasik is a graduate of The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music where he studied jazz music and entertainment music. He lectures at The Karol Lipinski Academy of Music, Wroclaw. Wojtasik was a member of the band New Presentation and performed at the Jazz Jamboree Festival in 1988. He was also working with Young Power, who revolutionized Polish jazz. He joined Quintessence in the 90’s and the Krzysztof Popek Quartet in the early 1990’s. They produced Lonely Town which was voted Best Album 1995 by the “Jazz Forum Magazine”. It was also nominated for the Fryderyk prize (also known as the Polish Grammy). He recorded Quest in 1996 with an international band that included Buster Williams, Ben Riley, Leszek Mozdzer, and Billy Harper. Wojtasik’s album Hope, on which he plays with Ronnie Burrage and Clarence Seay, won the Best Polish Jazz Album 2003 Fryderyk award. Wojtasik was also awarded the Best Polish Jazz Musician prize. He recorded Colors in 2005 with Francois Theberge and Nicolas Simion. Michael Donato, John Betsch, and Michael Donato. The Piotr Wojtasik Sextet released We Want to Give Thanks in 2005. It featured Wojtasik’s original compositions and a stellar line-up international musicians.
