This trumpet player was trained in Caracas’ legendary musical conservatory, Venezuela. Raul is an absolute master of Jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Classical repertoire. Raul is equally at home playing Coltrane, Machito and Bach music. His rich tone, clock-like precision as sight reader, and his sharp solo skills make him the perfect trumpet player. “Oscar Hernandez” was born and raised in Venezuela. His musical career began at age 7 with the internationally renowned choir “Ninos cantores De Villa Cura”. He performed in many choir congress around the globe, including performances in France, Spain and Belgium. Around the same time, he began playing Flute to learn to read music. Soon after, he switched to the French Horn. However, at the age of nine, he discovered his passion for “The Trumpet”. In a short time, he was the principal trumpet player for the same orchestra that accompanied the choir. To begin his classical education, he attended the “Jose Angel Lamas”, a superior school of music in Caracas, Venezuela. He also studied with Albreth Egon, a native German trumpeter and principal trumpet of the “Venezuela Philharmonic”. After a long career in Venezuela, he moved to New York to study with Victor Paz, who was the lead trumpet player for the hit musical “Cats”. He won a Tony award for best orchestration and a Grammy for the National tour of Movin Out the Billie Joel Musical. He is currently the lead trumpet for Broadway’s musical “The Book of Mormon”. He has had the chance to perform in many styles, including Jazz,Rock, and R throughout his career.
