Joe Albany, also known as Joseph Albani (January 24, 1924 to January 12, 1988), was an American jazz pianist. He was one of the few white pianists who played bebop alongside Charlie Parker. He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. As a child, he had learned piano and by 1943, he was playing on the West Coast with Benny Carter’s Orchestra. He was also playing with Miles Davis and Parker in 1946. After that, he continued to play for a few more years and was featured on an album by Warne Mars in 1958. He was still a heroin addict, and he lived in Europe in isolation for most of the 1950s, 1960s. He had many failed marriages during this period. In the 1970s, he returned to jazz and recorded a few albums. He was buried in New York City. In 1980, he was the subject of a documentary titled Joe Albany… a Jazz Life. His daughter Amy Jo (“AJ”) also wrote Low Down: Junk, Jazz and Other Fairy Tales From Childhood about him. From Wikipedia
