Alyssa Allgood, a Chicago-based jazz vocalist, has been called “one of today’s top up-and coming jazz singers” by Scott Yanow, a jazz historian. Alyssa first fell in love with jazz when she was 12 years old and attended the Janice Borla Voice Jazz Camp. For the next eight summers, she attended camp and worked closely alongside vocal jazz legends Jay Clayton, Rosanaeckert, and Peter Eldridge. Alyssa graduated from North Central College, Naperville, IL with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies. In 2014, she was awarded the Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award as Best Collegiate Vocal Jazz Soloist. Alyssa was a 2016 Luminarts Jazz Fellow by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation, Chicago. She was also named 2nd place in the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival’s 2016 Jazz Voice Competition. Alyssa was also a top ten semifinalist at the 2015 Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition, where she competed in Switzerland before a jazz legend Al Jarreau. Alyssa also received other jazz awards/recognitions such as being selected as a top forty semifinalist in the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competitions, and winning the People’s Choice Award at the 2015 Jazz Improvisation Contest hosted by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation. Alyssa is rapidly establishing herself in Chicago’s jazz scene. Alyssa keeps a busy performance schedule at different music venues and restaurants. She has performed at The Jazz Showcase and Merriman’s Playhouse, The Jazz Lounge, The Whiskey Lounge, The Jazz Showcase and as a special guest at groups at The Taste of Chicago, Andy’s Jazz Club, and The Taste of Chicago. Alyssa recently appeared on the inaugural episode “Chicago Jazz Live”, a radio program that airs on WDCB 90.9 FM. Alyssa’s debut EP Lady Bird won All About Jazz the Best Release Award 2015.
