French saxophonist born 1974. Sophie Alour was born 1974. She learned the saxophone from her mother after studying clarinet at Quimper Music School, France. She learned jazz “on the stage”. She was approached by Rhoda Scott in 2004 to form her lady quartet. That year, she also played in the Wynton Maralis’ Big Band. In 2005, she recorded her first album, “Insulaire”, and in 2007, she recorded “Uncaged” with Laurent Coq, Yoni Zelnik, drummer Karl Jannuska, and double bass player Laurent Coq. This album won her many awards and she was awarded the Young Talent Django D’Or 2007. She has performed around the globe, expanding her repertoire and looking for its limits. In 2010, she returned with ‘Opus 3″, a band that is closer to jazz tradition. Sophie Alour decided to join Yoann Loustalot, Nicolas Moreau (double basse), Frederic Pasqua on drums for her last album ‘Geographie des reves. Last.fm
