Born December 10, 1941 in Lugano, Switzerland. Basic musical education in Lugano (classic keyboard for more than 8 years). He made his first public appearance in 1961, at the age 20. Ambrosetti is a well-respected free-lance trumpeter/flugelhorn player and band leader who has enjoyed a good reputation over the past 30 year. Franco Ambrosetti made his American debut in 1967, as part of his father’s band (father Flavio Ambrosetti), performing at Monterey Jazz Festival. Franco Ambrosetti also participated in many of the major jazz festivals in Western and Eastern Europe, such as Berlin, Montreux and Warsaw, Prague and Paris. He has been featured in numerous radio and television productions in Europe and has toured many times in almost all European countries. He has also toured the U.S. as a guest soloist or with the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, the. He regularly plays in N.Y.C. clubs. such as the Blue Note and Visiones, Sweet Basil, Bradleys. 1966 saw Ambrosetti win the first prize in the international jaz competition, which was held in Vienna under Mr. Friedrich Gulda. He played from 1963 to 1970 with his father’s quintet, which included George Gruntz (and Daniel Humair). Franco is the band-leader of the quartet that continues to be active today. He learned how to compose creatively through his long-term collaboration with George Gruntz. This is evident in the success of compositions like “PISTROPHALLORUS”, EPITAPH FOR A FRIEND”, CLOSE ENCOUNTER”, “GIN and PENTATONIC”,” “BLUES for URSULK”, “EPITAPH FOR AN FRIEND”, etc. Many of his music scores were composed for TV and movies, including the film “DIE REISE”, directed by Markus Inhof (Germany CH 1986). His movie “Das Boot ist voll”, received an Academy Award nomination. He formed “THE BAND” in 1972 with Flavio, his father, composer George Gruntz, and drummer Daniel Humair. They are now known as the “George Gruntz Convention Jazz Band, The”, and he continues to perform with them regularly. Franco Ambrosetti is still active today as a freelance soloist wherexer (mainly in Europe but also in the U.S.), as well as a leader in his own group, continuing his long-standing collaboration with friends like George Gruntz and Daniel Humair. He is also a leader of a quartet that includes top Italian musicians such as Alfredo Golino (Anti Farao) and Dado Morroni. He recorded numerous albums as a band leader with musicians such as Don Sebesky and Michael Brecker, Don Sebesky (John Scofield), Don Sebesky, Phil Woods.
