At the age 16 I found my passion for the saxophone in a small Bologna music school. Later, I studied with Piero Omorici and attended jazz seminars at Jazz Urbino and Siena Jazz. These seminars gave me the opportunity to perform in a big band with such musicians as Enrico Rava and Marco Tamburini, Eddie Henderson, and George Garzone. My studies continued at the Conservatory of Verona, with Barry Harris, and at the American School of Modern Music, Paris, with Johnny Griffin, Charles Lloyd, and at the Conservatory of Music, “G.B.” Martini” in Bologna, Barend Middelhoff with Tomaso Lama. During this time I also had the chance to study with Tom Kirkpatrick, and particularly with Bob Franceschini. Then, I moved to The Hague in Holland to study at the Royal Conservatory (Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag). There, I learned from musicians such as Eric Gieben, Toon Roos and Rolf Delfos. I also had the chance to attend master classes by Gwilym Simcock. Joshua Redman and Dave Libman. I currently reside and work in New York City. New York is where I live and work. I regularly play in jazz clubs, restaurants, as well as with dance companies like Sue Samuel’s Jazz Roots Dance Company. Professionally, I’ve worked with Edoardo Siravo, an Italian actor, in theatre projects for prose and with Lucio Caliendo on the soundtrack to “Dreaming by Number”, a film produced for Dutch television that was nominated for the International Documentary Film Festival (Amsterdam). I have been working with musicians for 13 years. I have worked as a sideman and lead with many international musicians including Flavio Altarocca and Flavio Davio, Flavio Tandoi, Flavio Daranzo, Flavio Tandoi, Francesca Tandoi and Bruno Cesselli. My discography includes “Colors Ties”, which was released in 2015 and recorded in Holland by the label “To Be Jazz”. It was distributed by Self Music (IRMA RECORD). “Midtown Walk”, featuring Cyrus Chestnut will be released in January 2021. It was recorded in New York (USA) under the direction of John Lee, Dizzy Gillespie double-bassist Sonny Rollins, and other great musicians. The album will be published on the Amenta Music International label (A.M.I), which is published by BMI. Since 2015, I have been playing at jazz festivals and clubs in the USA, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Europe: I’ve played at “Jazz It”, Jazz di Marca, “Biennale”, “Jazz di Marca”, and “Leiden Jazz Festival”, Den Haag Jazz Festival, and other venues. from https://francescoamentajazzlab.weebly.com
