Marcos Amorim

Amorim, a Brazilian guitarist who has been deeply influenced by Pat Metheny and Baden Powell stylistically, is among the most graceful and elegant to emerge from Rio. He is an expert in counterpoint and tonal innovation. His fluidity, like Powell’s, runs across the plectrum/chord-voicing boundary and into the space where both occur simultaneously. He looks for the melody’s edge, like Metheny. His sense of rhythmic dynamics is uncanny, as well as his ability to play solo. Allmusic
