Luca Aquino (Benevento on June 1, 1974) – Composer and trumpeter – World music/jazz Luca Aquino, one of the most gifted trumpet players in Italy, is known for his innovative ideas and unique sound. He was born in Benevento in Southern Italy. At the age of nineteen, he started playing the trumpet by himself. He gave up the practice of the trumpet to study Economics for two years. He was captivated by the sounds of Miles Davis, Chet Baker and he returned to trumpet playing to continue his studies. Universal Music released his first album, “Sopra Le Nuvole”, in 2007. A year later, he recorded “Lunaria”, which he was awarded the “Top Jazz” award by Musica Jazz. He recorded “Amam” in Skopje (Macedonia), then “TSC” in a Dutch church. He recorded “Icaro Solo”, an album for solo trumpet and electronic music, in Benevento in 2010. After creating Riverberi Festival, he began collaborations with musicians, artists, including Mimmo Paladino, which led to the registration and release of Chiaro, an album in trio featuring a Norwegian rhythm section with Lucio Dalla as special guest. After a major live performance with Jon Hassell at the Church of Saint Augustine, Benevento in 2012, he joined Manu Katche’s quartet and recorded two albums. He recorded “aQustico”, a Tuk Music album, in 2013 with Carmine Ioanna, the accordionist. Then he embarked on a worldwide tour with him. 2015 marks the release of his seventh album, “OverDOORS,” as a bandleader. It is a tribute to his favorite band The Doors.
