Sheryl Bailey

Sheryl Bailey, an American jazz guitarist and educator was born May 20, 1966. Sheryl is based in New York City. Six albums have been released by Bailey. Bailey was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is part of a musical musical family. At the age of 13, she began playing guitar. She was initially interested in rock music, but she discovered jazz after listening to Wes Montgomery on the radio. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Boston, she became a teacher of music in Baltimore and then moved to New York City in order to pursue her career as an entertainer. In 1995, she released Little Misunderstood, her first album. It featured Vince Loving, George Colligan, and Chris Battistone. Reunion of Souls was Bailey’s 2001 album. It featured Sunny Jain and Ashley Turner. Stewart Mason from Allmusic called one track “charming” while another was “perfectly sweet”, but he said the album wasn’t groundbreaking. The Power of 3 followed. In 2002, eight tracks were written by Bailey. Rick Anderson, Allmusic’s music director, said that each track was a “gem” and “more complicated than you would guess from a first listen”. He rated the album as “highly recommended”. Bull’s Eye was her next album. Bailey’s fifth album, Live @ The Fat Cat, was released in 2006. She was also a headliner at the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival. MCG Jazz released her sixth album, A New Promise on February 2, 2010. Berklee and Stanford University’s summer workshops are also places she teaches. From Wikipedia
