Diego Barber

Diego Barber, Canary Islands (Spain), is a jazz and classical guitarist. His discography has appeared on music charts and lists of “best records of the year” by National Public Radio (Chicago Tribune), and Los Angeles Times (among others). His reviews have been published in magazines such as All About Jazz and Billboard. Sunnyside Records and Origin Records have released four albums by Diego. Barber is the son of a family of musicians. He attended the Lanzarote Conservatory of Music under Professor Miguel Angel Calzadilla, and also took private lessons from Professor Tonin Corujo. He enrolled at Madrid’s Arturo Soria Conservatory years later. Jose Ramon Garcia was his teacher and mentor. He then attended Salamanca Higher Conservatory of Music where he completed his B.A. Classical Guitar. Two significant events happened during his studies in Salamanca: Professor Costas Cotsiolis offered him lessons in Atenas for one year and Professor Ricardo Gallen taught him how to play any other part of the guitar in the world. Following graduation, Diego studied at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. He was a student of Professor Marco Tamayo’s postgraduate studies. Barber was awarded the first prize at the Leo Brouwer Guitar Festival in Spain in 2003 and the first prize at the Miami Classical Guitar Society competition in 2004. This allowed Barber to give concerts in several cities in Greece, Spain, and Germany. He had composed pieces prior to his Austrian studies. He currently lives in New York and has recorded “Calima”, The Choice”, and “Tales” with Mark Turner (musician), Jeff Ballard, Larry Grenadier (musician), Ari Hoenig and Johannes Weidenmuller. Origin Records will release the album “411”, which he shared with Hugo Cipres. From Wikipedia
