Takis Barberis was a Greek-born musician who was born in Athens, 1963. At the age of 15, he began to love music. At the age of 15, he began to love music. He studied classical guitar with Dimitris Fapagas and higher theory with Yiannis Angerinos at the National Conservatory of Greece. After graduation, he was awarded the Harmony certificate. He also played electric guitar in various rock bands. He became interested in jazz in 1979, and this would be the beginning of his career. He presented his first compositions to the “Jazz Fusion Quintet”, in 1982, when he was collaborating with Takis Farazis and David Lynch. Later, he would continue his collaboration with Takis Farazis and Takis Harazis in the “Iskra”, (1985), which he formed with G. Fakanas (N. Touliatos, L. Pliatsikas, and G. Fakanas). The group ‘Iskra was one of the most progressive and successful of that time, releasing their first album, “A New Day” (Polygram), in 1986. It also contains two of his compositions. He formed Model 63 with P. Hatzigiankos, K. Kalogirou and took a more experimental approach to rock music with Greek lyrics. They released “Model 63” in Lyra 1988. His first personal album, “Something From July”, was released in 1990. It featured his compositions of the 1980’s with Latin, Jazz and Rock influences. T. Farazis (G. Kontrafouris), T. Paterelis (T. Paterelis) and K. Kalogirou were also present. His second album “Are you Happy” (Lyra 1992) featured the classic sound of a Jazz Quintet (G. Kontrafouris T. Paterelis G. Vassalos K. Kalogirou), and was entitled “Something From July”. Barberis’s second album was his first attempt to combine Jazz rhythms and harmony, with Eastern and Greek elements. His third album, “Episodes”, (Lyra 1995), explores these themes further with the participation of Trilok Gurtu, an internationally renowned Indian percussionist, and Petroloukas Halkias, a traditional Greek musician on clarinet.
