Micah Barnes

Micah began his career in Toronto’s jazz clubs and cabarets as a teenager. He was a popular singer-songwriter on Queen Street before joining The Nylons to tour the globe. Micah’s recording with A Capella Pop brought him into the international music scene. He was then able to launch a solo tour of the U.S., which led to the #1 hit in the club “Welcome To My Head”, and Rolling Stone Magazine coverage as an “Indie artist to watch”. Micah’s return to jazz-oriented songwriting from his earlier years resulted in a number of critically acclaimed solo albums, including “Domesticated”, where he returned to Canada to perform solo or with his trio. Micah’s “New York Stories” is a tribute to the rich musical history in New York. The songs tell of a long distance relationship using the rhythms from the Cotton Club, The Brill Building and classic Broadway. These recordings feature Micah on the piano, Russ Boswell playing bass and Daniel Barnes on drums. This recording features The Micah Barnes Trio with special guest Michael Shand on keys. It also includes a duet featuring Jackie Richardson. These songs are a collection of highly personal and refined songs that remind us that even the most ancient musical traditions can be updated. Micah was named the Toronto Indie Awards’ best Jazz Act of 2014 after his first single, “New York Story”, rose to the top of both the Jazz charts in Canada and the USA. Micah is also a highly respected vocal coach whose clients include Golden Globe nominated actress Tatiana Maslani on the hit BBC America series “Orphan Black” from http://micahbarnes3.bandzoogle.com
