His inspiration for his trumpet playing comes mainly from the listening experiences of Freddie Hubbard and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as Chet Baker. Malte Burba and Bobby Shew were his most influential teachers. Till was born in Rome, and received classical trumpet instruction at Jesuit boarding school Aloisiuskolleg.
