Rob was born in Hampton in 1962. Since the age of 11, he has been playing the saxophone. Since the age of 11, he has been playing the saxophone since 1984. He also moved to NY in 1984 and has been active as a sideman or leader with Matthew Shipp (Wiliam Parker), Craig Taborn, Daniel Levin, Joe Morris, Whit Dixon, and Gerald Cleaver. Rob has also recorded and performed with Cecil Taylor and Anthony Braxton, Denis Charles and Bill Dixon, Butch Morris and Reggie Workman. He is also a member of various dance groups, poets and performance artists, including Fred Hopkins and Hamid Drake. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe. He is a 2001 CalArts/Alpert/Ucross Residency Prize winner and has received many Meet The Composer Fund grants. Rob received a Chamber Music America New Works grant in 2006. from www.robbrownmusic.com
