Brown, Ted [Theodore G. Brown], Tenor Saxophonist; born in Rochester, NY, 1/12/1927. He once studied under Lennie Tristano. Brown learned the banjo and violin from both his father and his uncle, as well as clarinet and tenor-sax from his uncle. Brown was a member of the Army Bands from 1945-1947, and in Hollywood from 1947-1948. He then moved to NY. From 1955-1957, he worked alongside Tristano as well as fellow students and associates Lee Konitz (now Warne Marsh) He also recorded a Vanguard session and was accompanied by Ronnie Ball. Marsh even had a date in Hollywood. Later, he returned to New York and continued his work in clubs. Brown recorded with Konitz in 1959 and again in 1976. He also led his own group in late ’70s. Anita, his daughter, is a big-band composer. She also manages the estate of Manny Albam who was a librarian for Jim McNeely and a copyist of hand music. From http://www.jazz.com
