Ben Bryden, a transatlantic composer and saxophonist, combines a melodic approach to composition with a poetic sound. He was born in Scotland, and has been based in New York ever since 2009. He has performed with many well-known jazz musicians (Will Vinson and Eivind Opsvik), Kenny Wollesen, Kenny Wollesen, Kenny Wollesen, and Kenny Wollesen) at many of the city’s most beloved venues, including Cornelia Street Cafe and Zinc Bar, The Bar Next Door, and Glasgow Dreamer: The Music of Ivor Cutler. To date, he has released three records: Bright Noise (“A fluidly-lyrical band built around 2-tenor interplay” Time Out New York), 1957 Flying Scot (“The best artifact” BBC Radio Scotland), and Glasgow Dreamer. Figure of Eight, his fourth album, will be available on Circavision Productions. This programmatic palindrome of musical wanderlust shows how seemingly unrelated ideas and influences can come together to form a cohesive and connected whole. It is a collection of original compositions as well as congruent covers. It represents the constant pull to place like the flow of the Atlantic, from one end of Scotland to the other in New York.
