Howard Hoagland Carmichael, also known as “Hoagy”, was an American composer and pianist, singer, actor, bandleader, and actor. He lived from November 22, 1899, to December 27, 1981. His music compositions for “Stardust”, Georgia on My Mind”, “The Nearness of You” and “Heart and Soul” are some of his most well-recorded American songs. Alec Wilder, an American author and composer, wrote about Carmichael’s music in his book “American Popular Song, 1900-1950”, describing him as “most talented and inventive, sophisticated, and jazz-oriented” among the hundreds of pop song writers in the first half century.
