Doug Carn (aka Abdul Rahim Ibrahim)

Born in New York City, he was raised in St. Augustine by his mother, Gwendolyn Elders Carn. She taught music in the St. Johns County Public Schools System. His future growth was facilitated by his mother’s unique and exceptional teaching skills. Doug began piano lessons when he was five years old and switched to the alto-sax at age eight. Bill Seniors, his uncle and jazz DJ, introduced Doug to jazz in the late 40s and early 50s. He was also an important figure in Doug’s musical growth.
