Aidan Carroll

Aidan Carroll has been making music since he was able to see the steering wheel. He was 10 years old when he started playing in his father’s Oklahoma City band with a snaredrum. Carroll, 31 years old, has become a well-known bassist and composer. His debut album, “Original Vision”, will be released on March 3, on Lyte Records and Truth Revolution Records. This is Carroll’s debut track, “For Now”. After graduating from UCO, Carroll knew it was time for a major change. He needed to move to New York to be able to play with John Patitucci, a Rolling Stones backup singer, or to get a Masters degree in jazz performance. He left Oklahoma in 2006. Carroll, now a Brooklyn resident is surrounded with music. It was easy to recruit musicians for “Original Vision”. It was more difficult to get a room of talented musicians together to record. It was also difficult to raise money. He was able to save enough money from his touring to crowdfund an album through Indiegogo. After recording, it wasn’t easy. Carroll spent much time mixing the record, adding overdubs and small flourishes to it. Although it’s not a typical approach to jazz albums, he says he was trying for something “in-the-moment.” “For Now” is an example of this vibe. A few minor tweaks, such as a synth bass overdub, made the song more poppier. Carroll stated that he is eager for “Original Vision”, to be released March 3. He also has much touring ahead of him throughout 2015. Carroll will even make a stop at the UCO Jazz Lab on May 12. He may also perform a few more concerts in his hometown during his stay.
