Marc Cary

Marc Cary was born in Washington, D.C. and is known for being one of the most innovative jazz pianists in New York. Cary is a man with eclectic tastes. He has strong post-bop roots but has explored other genres such as electronic groove music and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Cary was welcomed into New York by Beaver Harris and Mickey Bass upon his arrival. In the early 1990s, he played his first major-time gigs with Betty Carter, Arthur Taylor, and Roy Hargrove. He was Abbey Lincoln’s arranger and pianist in 1994. Cary’s records, starting with 1994’s Cary On, have been a great success. The Antidote was released in 1998 and Listen in 1996. Uncharacteristic electronica project, Rhodes Ahead Vol. 1 was released in 1999. The Jazzateria label also published a live album from Cary’s group Indigenous People. Trillium was released by Cary’s acoustic trio in 2000.
