Rob Mazurek was born 1966 in Naperville Illinois. He played cornet and trumpet in high school. After graduating from high school, he attended Chicago’s Bloom School of Jazz and began to play with local jazz musicians. Mazurek started Chicago Underground, a workshop at The Green Mill in Chicago that showcased avant-garde, improvisatory music. This idea was realized by a new group, which included guitarist Jeff Parker and drummer Chad Taylor, as well as Noel Kupersmith and Sara Smith, trombonist. This ensemble, known as the Chicago Underground Orchestra (or Chicago Underground Orchestra), released many albums on Chicago’s Delmark Records. Taylor and Mazurek continued to form new groups under the Chicago Underground umbrella.
