Frank Cunimondo

Frank Cunimondo, born 1934, is an American jazz pianist, educator, and musician based in Pittsburgh (PA), USA. Born in Pittsburgh, he began his musical journey at age 6 with classical piano. He made the transition from classical piano to jazz as a teenager. He attended George Westinghouse High School where Erroll Garner and Ahmad Jamal were also students. Later, he attended Carnegie Tech which was later transformed into Carnegie Mellon University. He began playing professionally in his teens at several clubs around Pittsburgh. He toured many cities, including Atlantic City and Miami, at the age of 19. He played at many Pittsburgh jazz venues, including The Crawford Grill. He shared the stage with George Benson, a young man. Frank Cunimondo, a professional musician and jazz enthusiast, moved to New York City in the 1950s. Cunimondo eventually returned to Pittsburgh. Frank Cunimondo’s discography is extensive, with almost every artist from Pittsburgh having recorded with him. He has also shared the stage with many jazz legends, including Lou Donaldson and Jimmy Witherspoon, Lou Donaldson, Louie Bellson and Joshua Redman. The Pittsburgh Jazz scene is also home to the Frank Cunimondo Trio. His most well-known recording, “Feelin’ Good”, which he recorded together with Lynn Marino is an international hit that is available on MoviePlay Gold. The title track has been used in many European dance mixes. Most of his recordings are distributed through Mondo Records, which is his record label. He has appeared on a variety of television shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Frank Cunimondo is a jazz pianist who has been performing for many years. He was previously a professor at Duquesne University. He currently teaches at Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh.
