DePaul University’s Jazz Ensemble is one thirteen student groups that performs on campus and off. The group performs regularly at Joe and Wayne Segal’s Jazz Showcase in Chicago. The band has performed at the Midwest Clinic (2010-2004, 1998, 1994), the International Association for Jazz Education Conference (2012), the Duke Ellington International Conference (2012), the Jazz Education Network Conference (2012), the Duke Ellington International Conference (2013), the National Association of Music Merchants Conference and the Jazz Party At Sea aboard S.S. Norwegian Moon. They also performed twice on the Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner for the Annual Flooting Jazz Festival. Each year, the Jazz Ensemble records an annual album that features student, faculty, and commissioned music. These recordings have won a variety of Jazz Educators Journal, Down Beat, and Jazz Times magazine awards. The Jazz Ensemble recorded albums with jazz legends Phil Woods and Clark Terry, Louie Bellson and Jim McNeely, Jeff Hamilton and Slide Hampton, Ira Sullivan and Bobby Shew, as well as members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Charles Vernon and John Bruce Yeh. Jazzed Media released Salutes Woody Herman, JM 1064 recently. It features Jeff Hamilton as a guest drummer and DePaul Jazz Studies faculty members Thomas Matta, Mark Colby and Bob Lark performing with the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble.
