Aaron Diehl is 2011 Cole Porter Fellow Jazz of American Pianists Association. The New York Times hailed Aaron Diehl as a “Revelation” and the Chicago Tribune called him “the most promising discovery Wynton] Marsalis made since Eric Reed.” Aaron Diehl’s unique interpretations of Scott Joplin, Jelly roll Morton, Art Tatum and Duke Ellington pay homage to tradition while establishing his original voice. Mr. Diehl has performed as part of the Wynton Marsalis septet, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and The Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also been featured on Marian McPartland’s NPR radio program Piano Jazz. He has performed at major European jazz festivals, as well as in South America and Asia. He recently released Live at Caramoor from his solo performance at this prestigious festival, which was part of the Mozart Jazz trio album. His latest trio CD is called Live at the Players. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Diehl graduated from the Juilliard School in 2007. His teachers were Kenny Barron and Eric Reed. He was awarded the Martin E. Segal award by Lincoln Center in 2004. He also won the 2003 Jazz Arts Group Hank Marr Jazz Competition. After graduating from high school, he went on tour with the Wynton Marsalis septet.
