Dj Spooky

Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky) is a multi-media artist, composer, and writer. His work takes audiences on a journey through a variety of genres, global cultures, environmental and social issues. Miller has worked with a variety of artists including Metallica and Chuck D. Steve Reich. His 2018 album DJ Spooky Presents Phantom Dancehall debuted at number 3 on Billboard Reggae. His multimedia performances include “Rebirth of a Nation,” Terra Nova Sinfonia Antarctica, and “Rebirth of a Nation,” which were commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He also wrote the piece during his 2014 Seoul Institute of the Arts residency. Sonic Web, his multimedia project, was premiered in San Francisco’s Internet Archive. He was the first artist-in-residence at The Met Reframed Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2012-2013. He was named National Geographic Emerging Explorer in 2014. In 2015, he produced Pioneers of African American Cinema. This collection includes the first films by African American directors. Miller’s art has been featured in The Whitney Biennial, The Venice Biennial for Architecture and the Miami/Art Basel fair as well as many other museums and galleries. Miller’s books include the acclaimed Rhythm Science, published in 2004 by MIT Press; Sound Unbound which is an anthology on digital music and media; The Book of Ice which presents a visual and acoustic picture of Antarctica; and The Imaginary app, which examines how apps have changed the world.
