Born September 2, 1972 Dollison’s newest album, “Vertical Voices” has been released by ArtistShare(r), a fan-based internet community that supports the artist’s creativity. She and Kerry Marsh, her husband, are vocalist and award-winning arranger. They pay tribute to Maria Schneider, ArtistShare’s multiGrammy Award-winning flagship artist. Here they recreate compositions she wrote for her jazz orchestra, multi-tracking the parts of the horns to create a two voice orchestra. Marsh and Dollison will tour this spring in support of their new CD. They’ll perform as a duet with their pre-recorded vocal parts from the album, minus the two parts that they’ll be performing live. They will be performing songs from Dollison’s “Observatory” CD, as well as showcasing some of their latest arrangements and compositions. Dollison’s unique brand of jazz continues to delight concert-goers and festival audiences across the U.S. and Canada. She has performed at New York’s Jazz Standard with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and she was invited to many IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators Associations) conferences. Dollison premiered a concerto by Geoffrey Keezer (Grammy-nominated pianist), and then performed with him at the Brubeck festival. Julia is a singer and educator. She also frequently appears as a clinician, adjudicator, and featured artist in California and around the globe. Dollison won the DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award in 2000 for Best Collegiate Jazz Soloist. She has performed at many New York clubs, including Tavern on the Green and Sweet Rhythm. Dollison has shared the stage with Jamey, Bob Dorough and Kurt Elling as well as Mark Murphy, Diannereves, Kenny Wheeler, Dianne Reeves and Christian McBride. She has recorded and performed backing vocals for pop stars Regis Philbin, John Secada and Nell Carter. Under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, Erich Kunzel and Erich Kunzel she has been a guest soloist as a soprano soprano. She has also performed with the Boston Pops Symphony and Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Dollison, currently Sacramento State’s vocal jazz program coordinator, is also an applied jazz voice instructor. She has won ten DownBeat Student Music Awards, including Best College Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Best Collegiate Jazz arrangement, and Outstanding Jazz Vocal Soloist, since 2005. Dollison has been an assistant director at Folsom High School and American River College for the DownBeat-winning vocal jazz ensembles. Dollison was an adjunct faculty member at Florida’s University of Miami and New School University in New York. Dollison earned her M.M. M.M. in Jazz Vocal Performance and Studio Music. She also teaches with an assistantship and earns her graduate degree. Dollison is a classically trained soprano who has performed as a guest soloist in the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas (symphony conductor) and Erich Kunzel (national orchestra). Dollison sang the solos in Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” and “Come Sunday : The Sacred Music of Duke Ellington”, and she also played the title role for Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors”. Julia also appeared as a lead soprano at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center’s “Voices of Liberty” show, where she was a main attraction. Dollison is an experienced studio singer. She can be heard singing the solo soprano in the Academy Award-winning film trailer for “Vera Drake” (Fine Line Cinema 2004), as well as in scores for films “The Stepford Wives (DreamWorks 2004), and “The Corpse Bride (Warner Brothers Pictures 2005).
