Alvaro Domene, a New York-based guitarist, composer and music educator, is from Madrid. He is also a musician, composer and teacher. Up until his move to NYC in 2015, he was a part of the jazz- and improvised music scene in Madrid (Spain), and London (UK). He performs regularly with various ensembles and collaborates on New York City’s jazz/creative music scene. Recently, Domene’s compositions were featured on the critically acclaimed album “Opik-3”, which was released by ZOBIK-3, a co-led trio (described by Ocio por Madrid Magazine as “the forefront in Spanish Jazz” and featured as the album of the Week on Avant Music News). Gran Masa, the lead quartet, also featured on the album, “Opik-3”, album of the Week on RTFM Radio Australia. Both albums are available digitally and through Cuneiform Records as well as the Downtown Music Gallery in New York City. Domene moved to New York in order to focus on his new band, DESVELO. It is comprised of the NYC’s most renowned creative musicians, Josh Sinton (baritone sax/bass clarinet) and Mike Pride (drums). This genre-defying quartet is an evolution in Domene’s compositional style, boldly combining elements of avant-garde music and modern classical music with experimental rock. The current projects include a duo featuring Briggan Krauss. Alvaro has a BA Honours Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from Middlesex University, London. He also studied with John Stowell and Nikki Iles as well as Malcolm Edmonstone and Stuart Hall. He has had the pleasure of working with Josh Sinton and Briggan Krauss as well as Teun Verbruggen and Mike Pride, Ben Goldberg and David Binney, Marc Urselli. He launched Iluso Records in May 2013, along with his old friend and collaborator, drummer Michael Caratti. This independent record label is dedicated to supporting and disseminating genre defying music as well as unrestrained artistic expression.
