Barbara Donald is one of the most prominent female trumpeters of all time. Her powerful and expressive style has not been well-represented on records. Her most famous performance was with Sonny Simmons, her husband at the time, between 1963 and 1972. In the early 1980s, she recorded some impressive performances for Cadence, but not much has been heard of her since. Allmusic
