Thom Douvan, guitarist and composer, hails originally from Ann Arbor in Michigan. He grew up listening to Motown music at the same source that the Hitsville Studios 45’s landed on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit. Thom was fortunate to have the opportunity to play regularly with four of the original Funk Brothers, the elite studio musicians Berry Gordy selected to be in his Motown recording bullpen. They were John Griffith, Joe Hunter, Richard ‘Pistol Allen, and Spider Webb, the drummer and pianist. They played on almost all the Motown hits from 1958 to 1971 with the four Funk Brothers. Thom was influenced by the experience of being with these great musicians and his deep appreciation for soul music.
