Christine Ebersole, a two-time Tony Award winner actress, has been captivating audiences for over 30 years on Broadway, TV series and specials as well as in films, concerts, recordings, and television. You can understand the meaning of Mr. Holden’s personal roles as wife, mother, daughter and spiritual warrior if you add in her personal roles. Christine, the youngest of her four children, was born in Winnetka (IL) in upper-crust Chicago suburb. Christine claims that her family and she were not in tune with the town’s ideology exclusivity. They belonged to the A.C.L.U., but not the local country club. Christine was a violinist in New Trier High School’s orchestra, and she also discovered her voice in a summer drama class. After New Trier, Christine attended MacMurray College, Jacksonville, IL. She then graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York, in 1975. Her first job was as an understudy for the Broadway musical On the Twentieth Century. She then went on to play the role of Ado Annie in Oklahoma. It was then on to Ryan’s Hope and One Life to Live. She also landed the role of Guinevere opposite Richard Burton at Camelot. Christine moved her attention from the stage to the screen, soon moving to Hollywood where she appeared in numerous hit movies like Tootsie and Richie Rich. Her television credits include The Cavanaughs and Valerie as well as the title role in Rachel Gunn R.N. She realized that she was auditioning to take on roles she had previously been offered. Christine fled Broadway with her four-legged family, and her agent informed her that she was “over the top”. She eventually found her home in Maplewood. Christine reflects on the time and says that she moved from Hollywood to Maplewood. It’s amazing what a leaf can do for you! She was nominated for both Outer Critics Circle and Tony Awards for her Broadway performance as Dorothy Brock, the smash hit revival of 42nd Street, Steel Magnolias and Dinner at Eight. Then came the role of her life. Christine won almost every Off-Broadway award, as well as her second Tony Award in Leading Actress in Musical for her role in Grey Gardens. The show received praise from critics and the public alike. It was nominated to receive ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical. A Grammy Award was also given for its CD. Christine accepted her Tony Award and said that she had left Hollywood because they told me that I was too old. Now, Christine is here receiving the most distinguished award for the role of a lifetime. I’m now the person who has the most important role in my life. This is very encouraging,” Christine said. Her career continued to grow with Blithe Spirit, the Broadway musical starring Angela Lansbury. She also made numerous guest appearances on countless popular TV series, including the role of Ms. New Parts Newberg on Royal Pains. Christine continues to perform in many concert halls and Cabaret venues across the country, including appearances in City Center Encores! at Tanglewood, Boston Symphony Hall and Feinstein’s.
