Darren English is always going or coming to somewhere. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa. These days you can find him on an extended sabbatical, in Italy. He also sets off sonic fireworks at Elliott Street Pub and other local jazz venues. English has a unique style that is both blues-driven and avant-garde. His debut solo album will be released by Atlanta’s Hot Shoe Records. Darren was the recipient of two Fine Music Radio Awards and the 2012 SAMRO Overseas Award. He spends a lot of time performing with groups like the Joe Gransden Big Band and the Marcus Lewis Big Band. Jacob Deaton’s Sweet Deat and the Revivalists, Jacob Deaton and the Revivalists and the Kevin Bales Quartet. Kebbi Williams’ Wolfpack is another group he performs with. We are proud to welcome Darren to The Velvet Note as a young, bold jazz artist whose departures have been covered by the media. He will be joined by Nick Rosen on piano, Craig Shaw on bass and Justin Chesarek drums. B.A.C. endorses Darren. B.A.C. endorses Darren. from http://thevelvetnote.com
