Fred Farrell started singing professionally while he was serving in the USA military and in Europe. He has had private voice lessons with Cynthia Hoffman, Larry Chelsi, and Franco Spoto in New York. He also studied Jazz vocal improvisation with Richie Beirach, a pianist/composer; and Vocal Jazz with Sheila Jordan, a Master Jazz Vocalist at The City College of New York. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, his first solo performances in New York City were at Loft Galleries u0026 Jazz Clubs. These included his return engagements at Sweet Basil and Greene Street, during which he was an artist member of Cobi Narita’s “Universal Jazz Coalition”. Mr. Farell performed as a soloist and an ensemble singer at WBAI Radio, Avery Fisher Hall and Brooklyn Academy of Music. He also performed with jazz masters such as Dexter Gordon, Barry Harris, Kenny Barron, and Albert Dailey; and bassists Herman Wright and Rufus Reid.
