Serge Forté

Serge Forte, Jazz composer, arranger and pianist was born in Tunis on 1 May 1960. He discovered Jazz at the age of 18 while studying musicology in Lyon. To pay his tuition, he taught classical piano and played with local bands. From 1988 to 1990, Serge Forte was a professor at CIM in Paris. He recorded VAINA latin-jazz compositions with in bonus a duo featuring Michel Petrucciani. These concerts were followed by performances as 1st Parts of Miles Davis at Festival Heineken, Stan Getz, and Michel Petrucciani. In 1992 Serge recorded LA VIE EN BLEU on French Songs and then MOSAIQUE, in 1994. He was a part of the plays of Oscar Peterson and Thelonious Monk as well as Bill Evans, Phineas Neuborn, Keith Jarrett and Phineas Garner. JAZZ’IN CHOPIN is the 2003 album. Chopin’s melodies here are treated as Jazz Standards. This album perfectly illustrates the blurring of Jazz and Classical. Thank You for All, featuring Mino Cinelu as percussionist, was recorded in New York in 1997. It is a lively tribute to all those who have influenced him. The cd was released in January 2004 and nominated by Fnac for the Victoires de Jazz 2005. Serge Forte and his trio are also present on the french recording of Sheila Jordan’s great jazz singer, BELIEVE in JAZZ. The title sums up perfectly the life of one of Jazz’s greatest vocalists. La BOHEME is a personal account of the French Song inheritance, following the example of LA VIE EN BLUEU but with three sung titles and Alain Chamfort’s exceptional participation. His students today enjoy his extraordinary talent in pedagogy and his assistance with preparing competitions or concerts. Visit www.ellaprod.com
