The Fowler Brothers – Russ (Jim), James (Jim), and Steve were born into a musical family. Their father, Russell Sr., a guitarist and performer, fostered their love and appreciation of music. Russell Sr. moved his family from Kansas City Missouri to Houston in 1969. Russell Sr. was focusing on his teaching career, but Russ Jr., Jim, and Steve started performing in Houston bands. Steve Fowler attributes his inspiration and direction to writing and performing original material to Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker and Kerrville Folk Festival 1975. They performed a set as a guest during Lucinda Williams’s Houston performance at the Old Quarter. This was their first gig. The brothers gained a solid reputation and a loyal following throughout the 80’s, performing original material. Jim and Steve remained a duo through the 1990’s. In 1999, their Live at The Hops House recording was released on CD. Tony Kozel, a long-time friend, songwriter, and well-known bass player joined Jim and Steve to form a new trio in 1999. Jim and Pam, who were performing at the Hops House every night when it was up for sale in July 2000, saw the opportunity to purchase the venue. Jim and Pam renovated the club and added a state-of-the-art sound system. They now focus on original music. Every Sunday, they host the Houston Chapter and Fort Bend County Songwriters Association showcases. Fowler Brothers perform and continue to write and are now based at the JP Hops house. Their music can be described as country/folk, singer/songwriter or simply “Texas Music”. from http://www.thefowlerbrothers.com
