Harry “the Hipster”, a talented, but eccentric, pianist/vocalist, enjoyed a brief moment before disappearing into the obscurity. As a stride piano player, he started his career on 52nd Street. In 1944, he even performed “In a Mist” at an Eddie Condon Town Hall concert. His crazy compositions (“Who Put the Benzedrine In Mrs. Murphy’s Ovaltine,” Handsome Harry the Hipster, and “Stop That Dancin’ up There”) and frantic singing style were what made him a rock star.
