Alan Warren Haig was an American jazz pianist who lived from 19th July 1924 to 16th November 1982. He is best known for being one of the pioneers in bebop. Haig was born in Newark (New Jersey). In 1944, he began playing with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. He also performed and recorded under Gillespie in 1944 and 1946. He was part of the Miles Davis’ Birth of the Cool’s first session. While Haig is best known for his pioneering style of bebop, he spent much his career in non-jazz settings. His work was the subject a revival in 1970s. Al Haig Trio was his small band. One of his last concerts in London on 27 May 1982 was released under the Bepop Live credit to University College School All Stars.
