Booker T. Jones was a Memphis, Tennessee native, born in 1944. His father, Booker T. Jones, Sr., named him after him. “Booker Taliaferro Jones, Jr.” was his full name. Jones was a prodigy who played the oboe and saxophone and trombone at school. He also served as organist at his church. Booker T. Washington High School was his alma mater. He shared the hallowed halls of the school with future stars Isaac Hayes’s writing partner David Porter, Andrew Love of The Memphis Horns, soul singer/songwriter William Bell, and Earth, Wind.
