Peedu Kass, a bassist, moves and grooves along with some of the most prominent names in Estonia’s jazz scene. Peedu Kass was awarded the Elion Young Jazz Talent Prize. His reputation as Tallinn’s first call bassplayer has grown quickly. In his short career, Peedu has shared the stage with Lonnie Smith, Seamus Blake and Tony Allen. He also performed with the European Jazz Orchestra 2011. He has toured all over Europe, including the USA, Canada and Australia. Kass studied double basses at Tallinn Georg Ots Music College and the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and his Master’s degree in 2014 from the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, Finland. Peedu took lessons with many Scandinavian and Estonian legends. He also had the opportunity to be coached by Mats Eilertsen and Thomas Morgan. Kass is a multi-talented musician who has been active in the European jazz and contemporary music scene ever since he won the 2006 Sony Jazz Stage Competition, held in Riga, Latvia. Kass is well-known for his double bass playing abilities. He has played in many big bands, orchestras, sessions, and studios. Kass also enjoys being a composer. His studies with Tonu Korvits, a composer, led to him writing chamber ensembles and arranging strings and horns. A piece by Kass was commissioned by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO), which was performed at the “Estonian Music Days” in March 2012. Kass is the leader of several bands, including the piano trio Peedu Kass momentum that won the 2017 award for jazz ensemble of the year. In 2010, Kass released his first solo album, “Home”. In 2012, he released “Home” and shortly thereafter “Armada”. In April 2016, his latest CD, “Peedu Kass Momentum”, was released.
