Natalia M. King, a Dominican-born woman, was born in Brooklyn’s Latino American district in 1969. As an adolescent, she fled the “barrio”, to move with her family to Rochester, New York State. She continued her studies in sociology and history at the university. She rejected any notion of social success at a time in which most of her peers were joining the rat race for money and material comforts. She set out on the road in the great tradition of Jack Kerouac’s Beat Generation. The wild call! It’s hard to resist when it gets at you.” The explorer set out to explore the United States, starting from East to West with her notebook in her hand. She stopped at the Grand Canyon, Oregon, Seattle and Alaska, and tried many menial jobs before finally landing in Los Angeles. She began her musical career in Californian Babylon. Natalia was armed with a Fender Stratocaster and performed with the Mojo Monks. They were a muscular group that played a very unconventional, hard-hitting blues. She discovered rock and roll in L.A., where she was able to listen to Janis Joplin’s music, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Crosby Stills, Nash, and Crosby.
