Matt Mitchell

Matt was born July 19, 1975. His interest in music quickly developed. Matt was a toddler who would play with his Fisher Price record player, a stack vinyl LPs, and learn lyrics, track times, and other trivia about his parents’ albums. Matt started playing the piano at 6 years old. Composing began at 10 years old. His passion for music and appetite grew and he began to compose music at age 10. Matt spent five years in music schools after high school. He attended Indiana University for three years and Eastman School of Music for two years. His Master’s degree was awarded to him. Matt was able to play a variety of music during his school years. He had experience with rock, fusion and hip-hop as well as salsa, Brazilian and polka, as well the usual assortment of jazz and classical styles. Luke Gillespie and Michael Cain are some of the notable teachers who taught during this period. Matt has recorded and performed with Wes Anderson, Ravi Coltrane and Peter Epstein in jazz. He has been a member of the improvising trios Kaktus, Feigner and the art rock band Thinking Plague since 1999. He currently resides in Philadelphia, where he composes, arranges, and records music that is reflective of his ever-growing array of musical and other interests. from www.scrapplerecords.com
