Joni Mitchell, CC (b. Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, CC (b. Mitchell was born Roberta Joan Anderson in Fort Macleod (Alberta, Canada) on 7th November 1943. She is a poet, musician, and artist. She was born in Saskatoon in Saskatchewan and attended briefly the Alberta College of Art at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Calgary, Alberta. Before her exposure as a talented musician in Western Canada, including Winnipeg where she met Neil Young, her writing and art talents were evident. In the mid-1960s, she was a part of New York City’s burgeoning folk scene. She grew her musical horizons to include jazz and pop music in the 1970s to become one the most respected singer-songwriters of late 20th century. She has won multiple Grammys and was awarded the Order of Canada. Mitchell is also a skilled visual artist. Mitchell is an accomplished visual artist who has created all of the artwork for her albums through painting or photography. She describes herself as a “painter derail by circumstance”. Mitchell is a harsh critic of the music industry. She has stopped recording for the past several years and now focuses on her visual art. However, she did release Shine on 25 September 2007.
